Born in 1980 in Porto-Novo, the administrative capital of Benin, Léonie HOUNKPE settled 11 years ago in the Gankpodo area of Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. Married to Moïse GOUDJEMINDJI, a fisherman, Léonie is the mother of six children, all attending school. The couple lives together with their children, and Léonie helps her husband in dealing with family expenses. She generates income by selling soya-based cornmeal, and soya-based cheese. She gets her supplies from Dantokpa, Benin’s international marketplace. Léonie sells her products both as an itinerant merchant and from her home. She has never attended school but has been working at her business for the past five years. Léonie is a very good customer of ALIDé, in that she was already granted six loans, all of which were repaid in full.
