Englische Projekt-Vorstellung

Kisan A Group is a group of eight farmers in Tunbaun Village, West Amarasi Sub District, Kupang District of East Nusa Tenggara. Tunbaun is situated about 23 kilometres from Kupang City. Most of the village community consumes corn and cassava as their staple food. The agricultural products also generate money for their family needs. The agricultural products are sold at Baun Market in the nearest neighboring village and also in Inpres Market in Kupang City. The view surrounding the village is beautiful as many trees and wild flowers grow well in the rainy season. The village seems green.

Kisan A Group is led by Damaris Runisi. She is a 47 year-old farmer. She is married to a farmer from her village and their marriage has been blessed with three children. They are: - Devri Runisi, 17 – who is now working in Jakarta; - Dance Runisi, 14 – he did not complete elementary school and spends his days helping his parents on the farm; - Ayub Runisi, 10, who is in the fourth grade of Elementary School.

Damaris is a good mother to her children and her life is dedicated to her family. She usually starts her day at five am. She prepares breakfast for her children and husband and helps Ayub in preparing himself to go to school. Damaris has to walk about one kilometre to reach a spring in order to get water for washing and cooking. Using two buckets, Damaris carries the water on her shoulders. After completing her work at home she goes to the farm to help her husband. They usually spend about six hours on the farm. They plant coconut, betel vine and bananas and sell them in Inpres Market once a week. They also plant peanuts, peas, cassavas and corn in the rainy season. To generate more income, Damaris’ husband also buys vegetables and fruits from other farmers and resells them at the market. Damaris used to own another farm but because of landslide lost her land. As a result, she and her family can only depend on their current farm.

As the mother of three children, Damaris is concerned about her family. Her husband is a hard worker but the income he generates is only just enough to support their family needs. This is the reason that motivated Damaris to find another way to support her family. She heard about the TLM cattle fattening program and would like to join it. Together with other farmers also interested in joining the program, they formed Kisan A Group to apply for the loan. Damaris is requesting a loan of IDR 3,300,000 to buy a calf to fatten over a 12 month period. The other group members are also requesting the same loan. All of them have the same goal: to improve their lives.
